Florence, currently in his rookie year on the ASP WCT, proved unstoppable on the final day of Billabong Rio Pro competition, topping prodigious Australian Julian Wilson (AUS), 23, and Josh Kerr (AUS), 27, on his way to triumph over Parkinson.

“This is the best feeling in the world,” Florence said. “I had that bad heat at Arpoador to start and we had a couple of lay days and I had to just sit and think about it. I can’t even believe this right now. I’m in shock. I was just sticking to my game plan and not thinking about the other guys. I’m so happy right now.”

The surfer who has priority gets to take any wave of their choosing and has unconditional right of way on their chosen wave. Under ASP rules when a surfer receives a priority interference only one score is counted towards their heat total and their opponent counts two.

Banting battled hard in the Final against American Evan Gieselman (USA), with both surfers going for broke in the small, but fun surf. The 17-year-old from Port Macquarie took to the air and landed some massive air-reverses that saw him post some big scores and claim the USD$25,000 1st prize and 3,500 ASP World Tour ratings points.

“That was the best wave I’ve had at Manly,” Young said. “I just made sure I didn’t fall because it was such a good wave and I didn’t want to ruin it. I just got here yesterday morning from Brazil and was jet-lagged all day. It was a mission to get here, but that heat was worth it, I’m glad to be here.”

Laura Enever (AUS) was looking like exiting the event with a 5th place finish in her Quarterfinal against Pauline Ado (FRA), she was left needing a decent score as the ocean went flat in the last five minutes. But Enever waited patiently and with a mere 14 seconds on the clock she stood up on a nice looking left-hander and launched into a series of sharp turns, easily netting the required score.

Eric Geiselman (USA) landed at Sydney airport this morning and two hours later was in a heat against 1999 ASP World Champion Mark Occhilupo (AUS). Geiselman didn’t let the jet-lag slow him down, the young Floridian won the closest heat of the day scoring a 13.90 (out of a possible 20) heat total, with Hawaiian Keala Naihe (HAW) finishing 2nd on 13.20 and Occy eliminated in 3rd place with 13.06.

Perrow is fresh off the biggest win of his career at last December’s Pipeline Masters and he looked in superb touch posting a solid heat win over Portugal’s Vasco Ribeiro.
Perrow’s 15.43 heat score included one of the day’s top scoring rides of an 8.93.

NORTH SHORE, OAHU - (Jan. 28, 2012) -- The Banzai Pipeline caught everyone off guard today as waves doubled and tripled in size from one heat to the next. After the completion of only seven heats, competition organizers called the event off for the day due to dangerous conditions. Just under three hours of competition was a sufficient amount of time for injuries, wipeouts and hairball rides to be registered. Waves maxed out in the 15 to 20-foot range.

BURLEIGH HEADS, Queensland/Australia (Friday, 27 January, 2012) – A massive day of competition saw all Quarterfinalists decided in both the men’s and women’s draws at the Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast today. Competitors battled the rain, stormy seas and each other in an exciting day of surfing in 2 – 3 foot (1 – 1.5 meter) surf at the world famous Burleigh Heads.

These changes will expand upon the December 2011 decision to suspend the midyear rotation for 2012, due to schedule constraints, and continue to provide a clear pathway towards ASP Top 34 Qualification.

2012 ASP Surfing Off to Great Start at Championship Moves Open, Pro Junior and EVO Women’s Pro Junior

Jan Juc, Victoria/Australia (Thursday, 5 January, 2012) - In the first day of surfing on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) calendar, competition was forced to move from from Bells Beach to Jan Juc to take advantage of the three foot (1.5 meter) waves on offer.
In a huge day of surfing action, three events got underway starting with Round 1 of the Championship Moves Pro Junior Presented by CHIKO, followed by the opening Rounds of the ASP 1-Star Championship Moves Open Presented by CHIKO and the EVO Women’s Pro Junior Presented by Ghanda.

Bells Beach To Host First ASP Event Of 2012

COOLANGATTA, Queensland/Australia (Tuesday, 3 January, 2012) – The hallowed waters of Bells Beach, Victoria will host the opening event of the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) calendar with the ASP 1-Star Championship Moves Open and Pro Junior Presented by CHIKO, and the EVO Womens Pro Junior Presented by Ghanda.
The 5-day surfing festival will play host to the first ASP Star rated event in Victoria in four years, a 3-Star boys ASP Pro Junior and 3-Star girls ASP Pro Junior, with a total prize pool of $35,000 USD.

Quiksilver Pro New York Cancelled for 2012

Burrow Wins Reef Hawaiian Pro, Takes Vans Triple Crown Lead

HALEIWA, Hawaii (November 23, 2011) - West Australia’s Taj Burrow, a virtual veteran of pro surfing at 33 years of age, has claimed his first Reef Hawaiian Pro title in Hawaii to pocket $25,000 and take an early lead on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing ratings. Burrow, who has been competing in Hawaii for 15 years, left the field in his wake today, finding a form all his own in the pumping overhead surf. Coming into the final, he claimed that this was his year to shoot for the Vans Triple Crown.
